Case Study - ESR Technology
ESR Technology is a consultancy company based in Warrington near Manchester in the UK and is a world leader in the provision of highly specialised consultancy services to the power sector, oil & gas sector and the transport sector.
ESR have been in existence for more than 40 years, initially as the safety and reliability directorate of the UK Atomic Energy Authority. During that time ESR has gain unparalleled experience of safety, reliability, risk and risk management and business continuity in mission critical situations for some of the worlds leading companies. In the mid 90s the UK Atomic Energy Authority was privatised in the last privatisation of the Thatcher government and became AEA Technology. Some years later ESR Technology was split from AEA Technology to be a stand alone company.
In the late 90s Altea Management had assisted members of ESR Technology's staff in Poland whilst ESR was still a part of AEA Technology (see the AEA Technology case study). When ESR technology required assistance again in Poland, Altea Management was a natural choice. Altea Management's in-depth engineering knowledge, and experience in Poland and internationally was crucial to the success of ESR's Project in Poland.
ESR had been retained by a newly created vertically integrated power company in the Eastern Ukraine to carry out a benchmarking study to compare the functioning of their assets with similar companies in the UK, South Africa, USA, Poland, Czech and Hungary. To execute this project ESR needed a partner in Poland and Czech with right technical knowledge, local experience and contacts - Altea Management, with a proven track record were the ideal partner.
Altea Management assisted ESR Technology in carrying a comprehensive study of the power generation and coal sectors in Poland and the Czech republic, including mine and power station visits to carry out face to face interviews. Altea Management technical skills together with 15 years of experience in the region, which includes involvement in the restructuring process of both sectors in Poland and Czech, provided an unrepeatable opportunity for ESR to complete study to the best effect.
Whilst work together with ESR, Altea Management identified the opportunity for a recruitment campaign to fill vacant posts within ESR to assist them with their planned expansion in the UK and into the Middle East.
